Predictions for 2009 by Bryan Flournoy

Bryan's Portrait

Weather/Natural Occurrences:

1. This winter brings polar fluxes in temperature all the way to the end of the season. If bulbs are left in the ground, they sprout too soon. Earth’s axis is shifting and our exposure to the sun’s solar wind causes a change in earth’s electromagnetic nature, especially at the poles. At some point we associate this axis shift with atypical atmospheric pressure (weather systems) and wind patterns. If it were not for this shift, earth could not initiate self-healing.

2. We will notice a new wind pattern similar to El Nino, but this variation in atmospheric pressure and direction of flow are profound and may cause very, very severe tornados and flooding.

3. Because the winter brings extreme temperature fluctuations coupled with occasional flooding, soil erosion becomes a concern in the most unlikely regions. New laws get considered, which may now require builders to seek land or to “create” a standard soil-sand mixture before land can be zoned for residential purposes.  We experiment with some byproducts originally meant for infrastructure repair, and instead these materials are used in building landmass, so that the ground’s behavior is more predictable before houses are built thereupon.

4. The weather poses no challenge to our efforts to rebuild infrastructure.

5. We pay attention to dead zones caused by acidic rainfall.

6. We consider using oxygen-creating microorganisms to reverse dead zones.

Domestic Politics:
1. When it comes to the government’s method for soliciting private companies to rebuild infrastructure, issues like equal opportunity come to the fore. Some contractors will need to have minorities and/or females on the workforce to gain favor during the selection process.

2. There will be some controversy with private companies and the charter schools they erect to replace public schools who failed ‘No Child Left Behind’ standards, and teachers blow the whistle wanting to maintain their public-government employee status.

3. We will have to apply a concerted effort across the country to keep our public zoos and art museums up and running.

4. Under Obama's watch Mexican immigration laws get relaxed, and in spite of controversy, Obama's reasoning is given the benefit of the doubt and proves beneficial, even highly advantageous, in the long run.

International Politics:
1. China is unwilling but still gets involved with some international conflict, and Pakistan initiates this.

2. Through crippling sanctions the world joins forces to punish the Hamas, but concessions happen earlier than desired for the sake of civilians who suffer the most.

3. During this year we heavily invest in diplomacy, but this effort does not pays off until year 2010.

4. Hillary Clinton and Secretary of State Rice form a strong and lasting bond.

Advances in Science:
1. Ecologists and oceanographers will research and find that special rocks found at the ocean’s floor bear interesting physical properties. We use semi-synthetic and some purely organic materials in the form of man made rocks, which get strategically placed in the ground to soak up particular impurities leached in soil. These man made rocks use a mechanism of action called reverse ADSORPTION, which may hasten earth’s recovery from toxic spills on both land and nearby bodies of water.

2.  When it comes to recovering soil after a toxic spill, we may decide to balance soil pH as the main strategy, which denatures certain chemicals to less toxic substances. In some instances, this can be done in place of excavation.

3. On a universal scale, all medical doctors and health care practitioners start using note pads that work like computer notebooks in order to store and retrieve patients’ records with fewer clerical errors, and these devices are linked via satellite to a remote central processing site.

4. A new technology is developed to provide better diagnostic screening for certain soft tissue injuries.

5. Sleep research studies show why some people burn sugar for energy at night, storing fat instead of burning it as a consequence.

6. More evidence suggests that cells grow resistant to the body’s own insulin as seen in type II diabetes, because of an auto immune disorder. There is a ‘down-regulation of cellular-insulin receptors because as insulin sensitivity declines more gets secreted by the pancreases for the lack of intrinsic cellular response, and the excessive amount of insulin that gets secreted with no negative feedback inhibition, triggers a hypersensitivity reaction, when the body ‘recognizes’ insulin as a contagion or allergen instead of an endogenous hormone. Membrane insulin receptors finally down regulate to prevent anaphylaxis.

7. Again, regarding diabetes, medical science suggests that there is a better insulin response in both type I and type II when using natural sugars (fructose) as a sweetener as opposed to using highly processed sugars.

General Interest New Facts Brought to the Light:
1. Industrial products like salts, soaps, and surfactants (which are sometimes used to make incompatible chemicals mix or form an emulsion) get special attention when we reassess our water treatment plants.

2. The Music, Entertainment, and Sport Industry come together through music, like ‘Hands Across America’ to raise morale and produce a series of community programs to mentor youth, encourage interest in math and science, while erecting community art centers in areas where there is troubled youth.

3. Psychologists agree that artistic expression increases self-esteem in youth.

4. Obama celebrates this Easter and future Christmas at the White House introducing a few new traditions.

5. Michelle Obama takes a sudden interest in Planned Parenthood programs.

6. Michelle finds a unique use for the campaigning offices Obama had distributed throughout the country administrating his political candidacy.

7. We discover a newly discovered fraction of invisible spectral light to be very effective for those suffering from SAD, seasonal affective disorder.  More light therapy devices receive FDA approval for SAD, nighttime urination, and even some types of stress urinary incontinence.

Economics:
1. To begin with, the Big-3 car companies will disappoint, but there is a positive turn around after some intense pressure and scrutiny, from the general consumer.

2. Through solicitation grants, the federal government gives faith based communities a questionable opportunity to act like small business to employ and pay local neighborhood residents to perform and provide much needed and very basic community goods and services.

3. The federal government will need to force or ear mark the funds of financial institutions, so that small businesses get access to community lending.  The federal government determines the relative risk for these kinds of investments and restructures how interest is compounded.

4. During a time when the dollar’s value is low, the government issues promissory credit so that small businesses may purchase equipment and materials from each other without money exchanging hands, but under this system taxation gets a little complicated.
